WHAT IS SWAGGIES CHRISTMAS?
For the new residents who ask, “What is Swaggies Christmas?” It is a free, fun, family, community Christmas event held (inside) at the Dayboro Showgrounds organised by the Dayboro District Progress Assoc Inc (DDPAI). Why “Swaggies”? Many years ago, in 2002 actually, when it was the Year of the Outback, it was decided for that year to call the event “Swaggies Christmas”. In keeping with “The Town of Yesteryear,” the name has remained since, unique to Dayboro.
WHY IS IT CALLED SWAGGIES CHRISTMAS?
We believe way back. maybe 1999, there was an EXPO held in King George Square, Brisbane, to promote towns and the Dayboro representatives at the time chose the theme Dayboro, Brisbane’s Closest Country Town.
It was very hot in the marquee, but, in true Dayboro style, the whipped cream for the scones and pikelets was kept cold! Someone was dressed in, maybe, a Driza-Bone, and the country theme continued into the Dayboro.
Christmas event name “Swaggies Christmas”.
Then followed the Year of the Outback in 2002……..and DDPAI has kept this unique Dayboro title over these years.
