A Planting Guide for the Fridge, Worked on Together

Six A4 magnetic planting guides from GreenThumb Magnets. We compared their charts with GardenBuddy data before print, and it improved ours.

If you grow anything at home, you know the problem. You stand at the back door and cannot remember if it is too late to sow beans. A chart on the fridge fixes that.

Our friends at GreenThumb Magnets make A4 magnetic planting guides for exactly this. The Complete Collection has six: Vegetables, Culinary Herbs, Tea and Garden Herbs, Fruits and Berries, Flowers, and How to Store Fruits and Vegetables. They are made in Australia, designed in Tasmania and printed in Melbourne, and every set comes with a botanical gift envelope and free postage. The Vegetable guide alone covers 34 popular vegetables across all four Australian climate zones, and it works with a whiteboard marker.

A team effort

This one was worked on together. GreenThumb Magnets built the charts from their own planting data, and every dot is their call. The GardenBuddy.au team brought our planting data, and before printing we compared the two, crop by crop and season by season, and passed on what we saw. GreenThumb Magnets decided what went on the chart.

It helped us as much as it helped them. We matched 66 plants, and the comparison showed up mistakes in our own data: snow peas in the tropics, peach, eleven perennials with a “plant all year” entry, and a cool temperate zone that was reading the wrong dataset. We fixed all of those, 89 cells in total, and checked afterwards that nothing else moved.

The full story, including what is still open on our side, is on the GardenBuddy.au post.
