Updates to the site

Over time, some errors slipped in, and, as usual, they need to be fixed. So this page shows what is been worked on this month.

Dayboro radar

New on the site: a live rain radar and lightning map that shows you everything in one spot. Rain moving across SEQ, real-time lightning strikes colour-coded by distance, storm cell tracking with directional arrows, and a flashing alert when lightning gets within 50km of Dayboro.

No more juggling the Bureau on one tab and lightning on another — just open dayboro.au/radar/ and you’re sorted.

Visible on the page:

  • Header: “Rain Radar & Lightning” with status badges (Radar: LIVE, Lightning: DETECTED)
  • Stats bar: 13 Radar Frames, 4 Strikes (1hr), 391 km Closest Strike, 5m ago Radar Age
  • Dark Leaflet map centred on Dayboro with range rings, green home marker
  • Combined legend: Rain Intensity (Light through Extreme) + Lightning distance bands
  • Playback controls with timeline slider showing “01:40 pm (-5m)”
  • Layer toggles: Rain Radar, Lightning Strikes, Storm Cells
  • Opacity slider
  • Footer with data sources and update timestamp

Dayboro Buddy Update

Dayboro Buddy

Complete new rewrite for dayborobuddy.au. I’ve always had problems with notifications, etc., on this app. That is now fixed, and an Android app will be available soon. A new, faster, and cleaner layout.

We introduced:

  • Lighting and rain radar.
  • More airquality details
  • More conditions details
  • Faster events calendar
  • Faster directory

Directory Email

Updated the contact in the directory; it will now be better formatted for the receiver.

Emails go directly to the directory listing owner if an email is configured.

I have to say it… not everything can be free forever.

The site attracts about 70K visitors each month, and most of them are looking for the free resources. Using the resources I had hoped to see a stronger conversion to members, but for whatever reason, this is not happening. $3.95 per month is less than the cost of a daily coffee, but it’s a big help in keeping the server running.

I do not charge for events or the Lions Business Directory. Nothing, I was hoping the $3.95 would help with the cost.

As the “free” resources got heavily used I now after months have put them behind the paywall, only available to members.
